Jesse's Girl Glow Stix swatches review BeautyJudy

Jesse’s Girl Glow Stix have been around for several years. I first discovered them at Cosmoprof in 2012.

But lately, the beauty world has been iridescent-ing, holographic-ing, duochrome-ing ALL THE THINGS, and it’s time to talk more about this affordable way to do that.

Glow Stix are a pretty lip gloss. Described more specifically as a “topcoat gloss,” it’s unique:

From left to right: Red Dawn, Tangerine and Wicked.

These glosses are not tacky, they slide on and have a nice feel. They are multidimensional; it’s hard to capture in the photos but in person they shift so many different ways! Glow Stix is such an appropriate name for them.

Red Dawn

Red Dawn is appropriately named; it reminds me of a sunrise or a sunset, sun blazing as it rises or sets. It’s an array of golden, peach, orange, green shifter that pulls predominantly peachy-red on me.

Tangerine

Tangerine was my favorite to wear alone. It is a yellow, orange, green, blue, pink shifter, but pulls predominantly reddish pink on me.

Wicked

Wicked has a golden, green, blue, purple glow. On my lips it was prominently green.

Of course, it’s one thing to wear these alone and get a very subtle effect but it’s another to wear them over a lipstick and change the color!

Here, I wore Tangerine over NYX Cosmetics Lipstick in Pumpkin Pie. I wanted to create a little fun on a neutral lippie:

The most obvious difference between the two – Pumpkin Pie with and without Tangerine – is that the gloss adds a lot of shine. The shift – that peachy-reddish shift you can see if you look closely – is subtle.

Check out the three over Jesse’s Girl Matte Finish Lip Color in Sassy. First, Sassy by itself:

Here’s Red Dawn on the left and Tangerine on the right over it:

Wicked over it:

You can see the more heavily I layered it, towards the bottom, the better it showed up.

Here’s the three over Kat Von D Studded Lipstick in Homegirl – first, swatches by itself:

I layered this several times to get the effect.

And that’s a theme I’ve seen with these; unless you very carefully dab them on your lip and don’t mix them into your lipstick too much, they are a very subtle effect. The shift will appear stronger if you layer more, and don’t blend it in. Don’t expect glowing, crazy lips with these, although admittedly, Wicked is strong!

I turned my hand every which way in the light and I never got a full spectrum effect, just that continued soft effect with Red Dawn and Tangerine. Wicked, which is a striking color difference from the lippies I used, showed up best.

I find they work best with matte lippies.

Wear time alone is a couple hours. Wear time over lipstick is a few hours. They wear down nicely because they are not tacky.
